Numeracy

  • Know 2x 3x 4x 5 x 10 times tables
  • Multiply whole numbers by 10/100
  • Find what must be added to any 2 digit number to make 100
  • Estimate and measure in g/kg
  • Understand the concept of perimeter
  • Read and write 12 hour time inncluding 5 minute intervals

Welcome to P6 Cats!!

February 2023

 

Hello everyone and welcome to P6 Cats page. The children have been very busy over the last few months and are working very hard. I am seeing each and every child flourish and grow and it is a joy to be their teacher.

 

We are looking forward over the next few weeks to discovering our new topic 'Fairtrade'. Keep and eye out for some photographs as we progress through this wonderful topic.

Numeracy 

Pupils will be able to:

Dividing by 8/7/6

Place value: Which number has 6 as the Hundreds

Make the smallest/largest possible number using 4 cards

Text Level Work  ( Genre: Non Fiction Weeks 3-4)

  • Know and understand the purposes of a persuasive text
  • Evaluate advertisements as a form of persuasive writing for their impact, appeal and honesty.
  • Learn how products can be presented. I.e. exaggerated claims, tactics for grading attention, linguistic devices e.g. puns, jingles, alliteration, invented words

Sentence Level Work (Weeks 3-4)  

Children will understand that some words can be changed in particular ways and others cannot. E.g. changing verb endings, adding comparative endings and pluralisation

Word Level Work (Weeks 3-4 )

  • Investigate compound words and recognise that they can aid spelling even where pronunciation obscures it
  • Understand that possessive pronouns do not take an apostrophe before the ‘s’ e.g. (mine) yours, his, hers, ours, yours, theirs.
  • Children will learn how to change ending of words to show pluralisation e.g. berry-berries

 

Linguistic Phonics (Weeks_3-4_)

  • identify,  segment and blend syllables in words orally, in reading and in writing
  • know and understand that a sound can be represented by more than one letter (the number of sounds and letters in a word may not always correspond)
  • use independent spelling strategies

To place the sailing of the Titanic into the correct period of time

To take part in group discussion

 

To understand that different ways of life differed greatly across society in 1912

To identify characteristics features of society in 1912. i.e. men and women

EW Genre: shape poems  

Invent calligrams and a range of shape poems, selecting appropriate words and careful presentation. Build up class collections.

 

Sentence Level Work

Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of nouns and use the terms ‘common’ and ‘proper’ nouns

Understand the function of verbs in sentences through;

Noticing that sentences cannot make sense without them

Collecting and classifying examples of verbs form reading and own knowledge

Experimenting with changing simple verbs in sentences and discussing their impact and meaning.

 IMPORTANT MESSAGE

The Ni Executive has confirmed if you travel back from Portugal AFTER 4 am on Saturday 22/8/20 you do NOT have to quarantine for 2 weeks. Parents are reminded if their children have returned from Portugal BEFORE 22/8/20 they MUST still keep isolating for 14  days from the date of their return. We TRUST ALL parents will follow this advice and send their children back to school on the correct date if they are isolating currently. We are caring for the safety of our whole school community and ask parents to follow the this updated advice.

O executivo do Norte da Irelanda confirmou que se viajar de volta ao UK DEPOIS das 4 da manhã de sábado, dia 22/08/20, de Portugal NÃO precisará ficar em quarentena por 2 semanas.  Os pais são avisados se os seus filhos regressaram de Portugal ANTES de 22/08/20, DEVEM continuar a isolar-se durante 14 dias a partir da data do regresso.  Confiamos que TODOS os pais seguirão este conselho e enviarão os seus filhos de volta à escola na data correta, caso ainda estejam a cumprir isolamento.  Estamos a zelar pela segurança de toda a nossa comunidade escolar e pedimos aos pais que sigam esta orientação atualizada.

If you have 2 or more children, you will have to log off and then log in on the Seesaw app. Each child has a separate code for the seesaw app. Please keep the codes you have been given for each child safe so you can sign in and out for each child.

This is only the case if you have 2 or more children on Seesaw using the same device.

We are sorry for any inconvenience but each child has a separate account for Seesaw as they have different classes. If you would like another copy of the code please do not hesitate to contact me on ymulholland883@c2kni.net or your teachers email address is on their webpage.
